Lize Deng is a photographer and writer based in Auckland, New Zealand. His fine art photography operates at the intersection of the visual and performing arts. In collaboration with musicians, dancers and actors, he explores how movement and sound can be manipulated and captured by light.
As a writer, he specialises in narrative journalism and micro-histories. His writing has appeared in The Lion, students x students, and the Brown Daily Herald. His "Sandringham Stories" oral history project combines photography, historical research, and interviews to trace the evolution of a community over a century.
In his freelance practice, Lize specialises in event photography, portraiture, and documentation of dance, music, and theatre productions. His photography has been exhibited at the MAGS Art Show, Auckland Libraries, Waitakere Arts Centre, and as Auckland Council murals. He is a past winner of the Stills national photography competition.
Lize is currently studying English and History at Brown University. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, fencing, and playing the piano.
